I'm pleased to be offering a new Puppy Play Hour on Saturdays over at the new Mutty Paws Dog Day Care in South Portland. I'm teaming with the owner, Kris Klinges, to offer a great new experience for new puppy owners. They get to be IN the group WITH the pups and will learn how to interpret play behaviors, supervise their pup's play safely and stop unwanted behaviors. Perfect! And...it's FREE if you need it to be. We will be collecting donations for worthy pet-related causes from week-to-week, but there's no obligation to contribute. Group starts on Saturday 2/4 at 2 p.m.! There is a $15 missed class fee in the Puppy Program. Should your pup miss a schedule day of class, please remember to pay the fee. This holds your pup's spot.
The outer door to the school is now LOCKED from 9:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. for safety reasons. All dogs should arrive by 9 a.m. at the latest. My cell # is listed on the door for anyone needing to be let in during our day.
Owners of adult dogs in the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Packs are reminded to revaccinate your dog YEARLY for protection against Bordatella, the Kennel Cough virus! All dogs in the school must be immunized yearly! Thank you.
Braided Fleece Tug Toys are always available to DWD customers at reduced rates (as compared to prices in the retail stores). If you don't see the size/color you want in the Customer Resource Area at DWD, just ask!
DWD also sells the lavender-scented fur-conditioning spritz and the ear cleaner used on all the puppy students! If you like the way your pup smells after a day of school, consider purchasing these for home use!

FREE SOCIAL HOUR: Puppies weighing less than 25 pounds AND still under 6 months of age (must meet BOTH criteria to play) are welcomed to play on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at the South Portland Kennel Shop. This play group is open to the public as well as to DWD students who meet the age/weight restrictions! It's run by the DWD Pack Leader!
WEATHER-RELATED SCHOOL CLOSINGS: Here's the scoop on how to check if school is open on bad weather days. School closings are few and far between, as I live here and don't need to travel in bad weather!! BUT, if it's going to be really raining hard all day or blizzard conditions, I WILL and HAVE cancelled a class here and there. On bad weather days, I will post a notice on the HOMEPAGE of our site by 6:15 a.m. indicating school is cancelled. I will also put a message on my phone by 6:15 a.m. If you call my phone and hear the usual message, then I've not cancelled school. It's only cancelled if I've changed my message stating NO SCHOOL that day.
ALL DOGS MUST be wearing a COLLAR at school!! If you leave a harness on your dog, please be aware that other dogs will likely chew on it and it may get damaged. Thank you for observing this rule. I need something to hold onto when cleaning ears and when separating dogs....
DWD requires a $30 deposit with application for new PUPPY students. This covers the cost of two missed days. If the pup does not miss any days, the deposit will be applied to the pup's LAST day of school in our program. If the pup misses a day of school, the fee for the first TWO missed days will be taken from the deposit automatically. Advanced notice of absences is always welcomed! The missed class fee still applies, though!
You are welcomed to park in the DWD driveway or on Simmons Road for drop-off/pick-up on school days!! If you park in the driveway, please squeeze to the R or L to make as much room as possible for others - it's a tight fit out there! On Simmons Road, please DO NOT turn around in my immediate neighbor's driveway, and please DO NOT park on the edge of her property. There is a side street you can use to turn around and then park your car facing OUT toward Ocean Street. Also, please use the sidewalk and not my dear neighbor's lawn. Thank you for your help in keeping my neighbor happy with me! Always a challenge, folks....
